A Google search will provide general details, and each studio will market its best offerings.
So which one should you choose?
We’re going to be weeding through the yoga studios only in Fort Wayne, IN offering yoga teacher training.
By the end of this post, you’ll have a better idea of the type of style and training each yoga studio offers, the difference between them all, and hopefully, one studio (or two) will resonate with you enough to provoke you exploring it further.
Let’s get started, shall we?
Different studios – different styles
Different studios have different styles, or strictly one style of yoga they teach and train with.
For example, one studio might follow an ancient or modern style of yoga (such as Anasura or Power flow), and another will have developed their unique styles such as Buti or Baptiste yoga.
Some of the studios in Fort Wayne follow the foundation of the Iyengar style of yoga. Studying Iyengar allows you to have a solid and neutral foundation in yoga, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay there.
Later on, you may decide to specialize in a specific style such as Restorative or Yin yoga.
It’s common to get a foundational 200-hour training and then continue into a specialized style for 300-hour training to complete a 500 RYT or CYT. With that, if you live in Fort Wayne, you’ll find there are many teachers open to sharing their knowledge through a sort of apprenticeship.
It is solely your choice on the style you choose to begin in.
The studios listed below are in order of the first recommended choice, based on my experience as a student and teacher for the past seven years.
Yoga Studios with Yoga Teacher Training in Fort Wayne, IN
Fusion Yoga
Fusion Yoga recently celebrated its fh anniversary and is located on the Southwest side of Fort Wayne. They currently offer 200 and 300 RYT teacher training. Also, Fusion offers Kids Yoga Teacher Training. It follows a comprehensive 95-hour yoga program that includes four fully developed courses designed to give the trainee knowledge, and best practices for teaching yoga to children in any setting.
Their yoga teacher training is unique as it’s not only the owners of the studio, leading you through training. For example, experts in endocrinology and psychology are brought in to teach students in order for them to gain a full understanding of a subject. They take a holistic approach to yoga but remain anatomy-focused. They cover the history of yoga, asanas, training and practice techniques, teaching methodology, philosophy, lifestyle, ethics, and beyond. Fusion genuinely believes in a well-rounded education.
Studio Seva
Studio Seva is in its seventh year, and is located on the east side of town providing some unique classes you’ll surely want to try! Seva was the first studio to bring fully specialized ariel yoga and circus classes to the Fort Wayne community. They also have a rope wall to help students hone in on alignment and length in your practice.
The owner, Joni, facilitates 200 and 300-hour RYT teacher training. Her training is a one-on-one apprenticeship where she provides hands-on instructional training. The most significant benefit to Seva’s training is that one can work through teacher training at their own pace. The individual guidance received to teach one “how to teach” thoroughly is priceless. She has a large emphasis on anatomy, in-class training and practice, and making sure each student can safely adjust and instruct upon completion of their training.
Simply Yoga
Simply Yoga focuses on traditional yoga, offering a variety of classes on the Northside of Fort Wayne. They offer 200 and 300 RYT teacher training. Traditional yoga is primarily a spiritual practice with the goal of union with the absolute or Divine through the physical practice of yoga.
Their 200 hour has a heavy emphasis on instruction that ensures each student feels comfortable and knowledgeable in teaching yoga classes upon graduating. Subsequently, 300 hour focuses on adjustments, in-depth anatomy, philosophy, and alignment. They offer a very comprehensive and intensive study for those seeking to further their personal practice or to begin teaching in a class setting.
Urban Body
Urban Body studio location is on the Southwest side of Fort Wayne. They follow the teaching methodology of Baron Baptiste. Baptiste yoga is a Vinyasa yoga power flow focused on strengthening the body while focusing on the mind. The goal is to help one to find and wake up to their authentic selves.
They offer a 200hr CYT strictly in Baptiste Yoga, which is only different from an RYT in that RYT’s are through Yoga Alliance. Obtaining a CYT is evidence to students that you have pursued an ongoing education in your yoga practice. Certification as a yoga teacher still allows you to teach yoga classes and start a yoga studio business.
Rebel Yoga
Rebel Yoga is a truly unique studio that opened in 2018 on the Northside of Fort Wayne. True to their name, Rebel offers a non-traditional yoga practice centered on “less meditation, more physicality.” If you prefer yoga classes based on physical strength, Rebel yoga is a place to check out.
Teacher training at Rebel is facilitated by its instructors and other experienced teachers in the Ft. Wayne yoga community. Their goal is to provide personalized coaching through a detailed curriculum, and hands-on training to leave each student ready to teach upon graduation.
Prana Yoga
PranaYoga has its location just on the outskirts of downtown Fort Wayne. Prana follows their self-created style of yoga, Sattva Vinyasa, a merging of Ayurveda with the therapeutics of movement and breath.
They offer 200 and 300 hour Sattva Vinyasa RYT teacher training certifications. Their training gravitates towards a focus on the emotional and spiritual journey with an emphasis on philosophy. Additional training such as kids, prenatal, and yoga therapy certifications are also available.
Look up Teacher Training Reviews
Read each studio’s reviews from past students who have taken their teacher training. Head to the Yoga Alliances website, type in the studio name, and reviews begin to populate. Try and click through a few pages to find helpful reviews.
The reviews will allow you to deny or confirm any narratives by others as you walk into a studio.
Investigate each studio
If you’re local, go and check out each studio to discover if they’re a fit with you. Get a feel for their style of teaching. Begin to ask questions to staff and yoga mates regarding their teacher training. Many studios offer a one to two weeks discounted unlimited class pass to explore all the classes offered. It’s a great deal.
If you’re a distance learner, call each studio and ask to speak with the teacher who leads teacher training.
Ask them as many questions as they’ll answer. Follow the guidance in this post to help you navigate through questions as you choose a studio. You’ll soon get a feeling as to whether or not they’re a fit. Don’t forget, you are also interviewing them.
Intuition is your greatest asset. Listen to it carefully. Try to weed out the places that “appear” to have it all. Oftentimes, they don’t.
