WHAT’S OUR STORY, WHERE DID WE LEARN THIS STUFF?
When we began juicing, the “Fat Sick and Nearly Dead” documentary had just been released on Netflix, and both sides of our family watched it. My mother-in-law radically changed her health with juicing in one month.
My Dad was battling cancer at this point. We were eager to learn to juice at home to be able to supplement his diet with the nutrition he lacked due to chemotherapy. My mother had a severe inexplicable cough, my husband has Crohn’s, and I was feeling the effects of not caring for myself properly during college. We were the perfect sick bunch to try something new.
We started juicing at home with simple recipes created from all the nutritional research we had gathered for my Dad โ more on that journey here. Juicing every day for that first week changed our lives!
And we know it will change yours too.
Juicing impacted our lives so intensely; we ended up opening the first juice bar in our hometown called Beet Street Juicery. The research and experience we gained from the juice bar are all we are sharing with you here on JMYB and in the guide.

Can I do a JuicE Kickstart if I’m Pregnant?
I am not a doctor. Always important that you first consult with your doctor before consuming or taking anything while pregnant. You know your body and what you choose to do is your will.
Please consult with your doctor. If you’re in the clear, then add juices into your diet.
We do not advise on cleansing while pregnant.
The Kickstart juices are not the same recipes in our Juice Reset (cleanse). You won’t induce any intense detoxing responses in the body. You and baby will instead benefit from all the added nutrition to your diet.
I juiced my entire pregnancy! Some days all I wanted was juice. It would help me through days of queasiness too.
The primary concern of juicing during pregnancy is the possibility of the produce being contaminated by E.Coli or Salmonella, which can affect you and your growing baby. Juices purchased in the grocery stores are pasteurized to be safe and shelf-stable. However, the pasteurization process kills all living enzymes, making a once pure and alive juice, a “dead” juice. Therefore, there’s little to no benefit to these juices besides being readily available sugar in a bottle. (I mean? Banana in juice? Have you ever had banana juice? yuck.)
PRACTICE THESE TIPS IF PREGNANT
Practice these tips for reducing the chances of contaminated produce.
- Purchase only organic produce and stick to the EWG’s Clean 15 and Dirty Dozen list to reduce the number of pesticides entering your system. These pesticides directly transfer through the umbilical cord to the fetus.
- Wash and scrub your produce very well. Remove all dirt, and remove any parts that are wilted, discolored, or look off. Trust your gut.
- Consume juice the day its made. Or it can be stored in the coldest part of your fridge for no more than two days (to be safe). Cold-pressed juices can be frozen and consumed later. Power blended juices should be drunk within 2-3 days.
- Washing tip: an old Venezuelan trick is to soak loose produce in a mix of 1/4 cup white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar) and about 8 cups (1/2 gal) of water. It will help eliminate any pests in fresh garden veggies.
The best advice anyone can give you is to listen to your body and intuition. Talk to a professional to make sure there are no complications that would compromise you or your baby’s health.
