A homemade cold brew coffee is something in its own right.
If you find yourself with tummy pains after drinking a grab-and-go cold brew from the store or station as we do, you have found your alternative.
Whether it be the dairy, sugars, or other additives that cause upset, the Nutty Nitro’s are free of all the junk.
You’ll be able to take a satisfying sip of your favorite beverage whenever you crave it most.
Made with our homemade almond milk, sweetened with only dates, with hints of delicious vanilla beans, all mixed with a nitro cold brew is a force to be reckoned with!
No joke. This homemade version will kick those pre-made Starbucks and other brands grab-and-go cold brew coffees to the curb.
Once mixed with the nitro and almond milk, the Belgian chocolate brings a slight Kaluah flavor that makes you happy from the inside out.
Homemade cold brew is so dang good.
We crafted this during our Beet Street days with one of our local coffee shops, Conjure Coffee, and it sold out every single time at the farmer’s markets.
We’re sharing our exact recipe so all the cold-brew coffee lovers are able to replicate it at home, in a dairy-free version, any time the craving hits!
Let’s get mixing!
Ingredients + Tools
First, you need some good nitro.
Check out your local coffee shops and see if they have nitro on tap. If not, you can make your own version of cold brew at home, or find nitro in select grocery stores.
a note on nitro: if you’re unfamiliar, know that nitro is much stronger than regular coffee. A 12oz of nitro contains about 245mg of caffeine compared to the 200mg of regular cold-brew coffee.
Second, you need good almond milk. If you have a preferred brand then go ahead and use it. Otherwise, if you’d like to try the fresh, clean, and crisp version of nitro with homemade almond milk, we’ve got you covered.
Head here for the recipe on how to make your own almond milk at home.
The unique flavor of our cold-brew blend is really in the almond milk.
The third is ordering Callebaut 70% dark chocolate callets via amazon. They are amazing. Turn any beverage into a mocha using these Belgian dark chocolate callets.
I have to hide them from my husband or he’ll just eat them all!
You might too.
No judgment here because they are incredibly good! Sometimes my kids and I will have a few as our chocolaty treat.
Lastly, you’ll need glass storage containers and a scale. 8 or 16 oz mason jars do the job, or previous coffee or tea grab-and-go glasses work just as well. Be sure they have a tight seal.
The Recipes
NUTTY NITRO
A half-half blend of nitro and homemade almond milk.
- On the scale, measure out two parts equally of nitro and almond milk. For an 8oz it would be 4oz almond milk and 4oz of nitro.
- Give it a good stir.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
NUTTY NITRO MOKA
A half-half blend with a Belgian chocolate twist that tastes just like Kahlua if you ask me!
- Add 5 grams of callet chips to one ounce of really hot water.
- Mix until the chips have melted down into a ganache.
- On the scale, measure out 4oz of nitro.
- Add the cold nitro to the chocolate and stir until well combined.
- Then add in 4oz of almond milk. If you add almond milk with nitro mixed to the hot water, it tends to separate. It’s best to add it last.
- Give it a good stir.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
There you have it!
Make a few of these to have on hand through the week and put a pep in your step any time of day!
Not only will it save you more than pocket change, but your belly and taste buds will thank you a thousand times over.
Mix things up and add any flavorings, spices, or changes you like.
