This DIY natural yoga mat spray is super simple to make and will leave your mat feeling fresh every time.
Because let’s be real. A stinky yoga mat is right up there with stinky ass socks.
And if you’ve been to a studio where you’ve had to borrow one of their community mats, went right into a child’s pose for a nose full of “the-most-nauseating-smell-ever”, you know what I mean. There’s nothing that makes you not want to practice or lose concentration during your practice like a stinky mat.
Hence where this all DIY Natural Yoga Mat Spray comes in.
It has antibacterial cleansing properties, is safe enough for most mat types (not recommended for cork as they use special care), and is super simple to make and add to a spritz bottle to keep at home, and to a little one to have on hand when visiting a studio. Not having to worry about harsh chemicals, toxic fragrances, and tailoring it to your preferred scent is a plus.
DIY NATURAL YOGA MAT SPRAY RECIPE
In a 16 oz glass mason jar add one of the following oil mixes:
- 8 drops Melaleuca and 8 drops Lavender essential oil (or)
- 8 drops On Guard/Immunity and 8 drops Lemon essential oil (or)
- 8 drops Cinnamon and 4 drops Lemon or Wild Orange essential oil
- 1/2 tsp Dr. Bronners Uncented or Lavender Castille Soap
- 1/4 cup of witch hazel
- 16 oz water
Stir until everything seems well incorporated and then add the mix to your spritz bottles to have at home and on the go.
Lavender: Used for both its aroma and anti-everything effect, it makes companion to any cleaning blends, and you can carry that savasana all the way home after class. Also is an antihistamine so could help those itchy eyes.
Melaleuca: This is the perfect oil for safe mat cleaning. It’s a disinfectant, antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, and kills many bacteria on contact.
Wild Orange: Used to uplift and relax the nervous system, it’s antifungal, antibacterial, and antidepressant making it a wonderful combo to reach that samadhi state – hopefully 🙂
Cinnamon: Is a little warm, comforting and it’s anti-fungal and antibacterial properties also pair well with those of Lemon.
Whenever you get bored with one, switch it up, experiment with some of your preferred scents, and try them out with the same cleaning base.
Happy smell good mat!
