With our first born I was all about using organic reusable nursing pads and went through a few different brands to find the right one. I wanted the best for my boobs and the best for baby. And I went through the same with our second little cheeseball below.
It’s important to not leak through that beautiful blouse at work or while your shopping for groceries for your business at Costco and wonder why people were looking at you a bit funny … me, right here.
So here is my personal experience on really the three main kinds of nipple pads there are.
Organic Cotton – That’s it
There is no waterproof backing on these.
These were my first purchase and I would soak through these like a cotton ball in water in the beginning stages of breastfeeding.
These are great after you are done with the leaking like a faucet phase. They are quiet when you move, your nipples and boobs can breathe, they’re soft, and don’t get stinky.
I still have some from my first son and LOVE THEM. I am using them as I type this up.
Organic Cotton or Bamboo with waterproof backing
These are great in the beginning stages and if you are still leaking quite a bit. They won’t get your tops and bras wet, they have a larger circumferance allowing for more room to leak, and are still really soft.
The cons to these are: they make noise when you’re rustling around for a night feeding (this royally bothers me for some reason). If you are going to be away from baby for more than four hours and you leak a lot your boobs will get sweaty and won’t breathe. It gets pretty damp and sweaty in there and it’s just so uncomfortable to the point where I would just feel pissed off, not know why, and realize it’s because my boobs can’t breathe. Especially in the summer!
Disposable
If I’m leaking like a faucet still, going to be out and about, working in the yard, out on a summer day, I like to use disposables. They hold in quite a bit of milk runoff, adhere to the bra as much as you would want them to, and my boobs can still breathe! We’ve established that’s pretty important to me, and perhaps you too.
Let’s be real, sweaty boobs are just like what I imagine sweaty balls would be like – no fun.
Lansinoh is my preferred brand of disposables. What’s the difference compared to others like Medela? Not 100% sure, but it has to do with the texture of the pad, how soft they are compared to most, and the way they absorb.
They put out a pretty good disposable nipple pad.
AND it’s ALWAYS good to have a few disposables in your purse, in the glovebox of you car, in your husbands car, at work, and wherever else you might frequent! Oh and of course the diaper bag – because it’s not just for baby 🙂
There you have it!
Short, sweet, and simple. I’ve provided links on Amazon for my three favorite of each kind above, but otherwise you can also get the Lansinoh or Medela brand via Target and get your 5% off or more depending on if it’s on Cartwheel.
Here is to hoping this short and quick little article has helped you in selecting which nursing pads might be right for you.
Please let me know if there are other ones out there that you absolutely love!
Blessings mama!
