OUR FAVORITE RECIPES

We use these recipes in our household daily, weekly, and monthly. Most are of my own concoction, some are from our juice bar days, and some are a variation of other recipes to make them more yummy, adhere to diet restrictions such as dairy, gluten free, or to reduce/omit refined sugars (credit is always given back to the original creator). The best are the super healthy snacks and breakfast foods for kids that won’t make you cringe when your kiddo asks for more!

Since I’m half Venezuelan, you’ll find a lot of Venezuelan dishes  straight from my family recipe vault to yours. Enjoy!

common questions we receive

ARE YOU VEGAN?

No we’re not. We eat meat in moderation, but we do really enjoy vegan dishes. I honestly won’t share a vegan recipe, or any recipe for that matter, on here for you to make if it isn’t damn delicious. I don’t like wasting ingredients or time in the kitchen, and I figure neither would you, so every single recipe is made at least three times before it makes it here.

SELECTIVE EATERS

In our household we have been blessed with the works!
While currently our 2 year old will gobble up about anything you put in front of him (he does hand back brussel sprouts), our 4-year-old is what we like to call a selective eater (more on his story here). I personally don’t do well with dairy or beef, and my husband has Crohn’s.

Ta da! Makes it really fun to cook meals … NOT.

It’s definitely a challenge to make meals everyone will eat. Over the years, however, I’ve come up with and found recipes that work for most of us. Otherwise there’s bread, applesauce, lunch meat, mac’n cheese, and avocados; that’s an I give kind of night. If you have one too, here’s a post on some fantastic resources I have found that are helping us adventure out of this phase.

CROHN’S, GLUTEN + DAIRY INTOLERANCE

You will find gluten and dairy free. For most that do require some form of gluten or dairy, I try to offer a substitute that works (only if it works).

Our experience with Crohn’s: if you are the food maker looking for ideas on foods for a loved one with Crohn’s, you may find some here that work and you may not. It’s one of those autoimmune challenges that presents itself differently in each individual. For instance my husband can’t have strawberries, no seeds, no heavy tomato sauces, no fibrous foods, no egg yolks, cinnamon is his kryptonite, and while he shouldn’t have dairy, he sucks it up for his Ben + Jerry’s Tonight Dough.

Now one thing that drastically helps him is Juice. Fibers in veggies are very hard to digest, but when turned to juice, he can drink them they’ll heal him like a Dr. House episode. When he drinks what I make him it will actually begin to repair his gut to where he can enjoy a salad with limited ingredients. Crazy right!

I hope you’ll enjoy what you find here. If a recipe ever needs an adjustment, addition or there’ was a substitution used that worked, please let me know and I’ll add it for others to enjoy.

Blessings,
